Fun Fact About Our Name!
Ototoi no MONO (オトトイのもの) literally translates to “The Things of Ototoi” or “Ototoi’s Things,” but there’s a deeper significance behind it depending on how it’s written.
When written in kanji (一昨日の物), it refers to “the day before yesterday,” symbolizing how our past experiences shape the present and guide us toward the future. It serves as a gentle reminder that the items we create and cherish are influenced by the journey we’ve taken.
On the other hand, when written in katakana (オトトイのもの), the name takes on a modern, playful feel. In Japanese, katakana is typically used for foreign names, borrowed words, and onomatopoeia, which gives it an international and contemporary vibe. This style highlights the unique, personal energy of Ototoi, the inspiration behind this collection.
